About Bucketlist.nl Dream of the Day API

Bucketlist.nl publishes Dream of the Day, a free public JSON API that returns one travel or life-experience idea per day. There is no account and no API key: you call the endpoint and get back a title, destination, theme, image, canonical experience URL and an attribution link.

Responses are CORS-enabled and carry cache headers, so a browser widget can read it directly and clients do not need to poll. Scope switches between the Netherlands and worldwide, and content is available in Dutch, English, German, French and Spanish.

The API ships an OpenAPI 3.1 contract, an importable Postman collection and an apis.json discovery file. For anyone who does not want to write code, there is a drop-in iframe widget that loads without cookies, ads or tracking. Useful as a rotating content block in a newsletter, a sidebar card, or a scheduled n8n workflow that needs one fresh item a day.

The API itself is free; some linked experience pages carry labelled affiliate booking links.

FAQ

Does the Dream of the Day API need an API key?

No. The endpoint is public and read-only, so a request works with no account, no key and no OAuth step. Responses include Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *, which means browser JavaScript can call it directly without a proxy.

What can I build with a daily-rotating experience feed?

The common uses are a rotating inspiration card in a newsletter, a sidebar block on a travel or lifestyle site, and a scheduled automation that posts one idea a day to Slack or a social account. Because the payload includes an image and a canonical URL, a single call gives you everything needed to render a card.

Is Bucketlist.nl free to use, and where does the money come from?

The API, the embed widget and the brand assets are free with no usage tier. Revenue comes from affiliate booking links on some of the experience pages that results link out to, and Bucketlist.nl labels those as commercial rather than hiding them.
